Josh, Packratt, Angel, Julie and I got the tower up in Josh's yard sunday afternoon. After a little bit of math we figured out the best way to set the stakes on uneven ground and pulled it vertical and secured it. The next step is fabrication of the PVC ring to attach to the bottom of the parachute, which I think Josh's father is working on. Julie and Josh's mother took many pictures of the proces but I don't have access to them at the moment because I'm at work. Rest assured, with the guy wires this tower is NOT going to budge, it's very secure. It's very steady, even Josh's mother climbed up the tower to admire the beautiful view from the top.
Getting the tower vertical was actually very easy even on the challenging uneven ground, we expect it to be even simpler out on the perfect flatness of the playa. The big challenge is figuring out the best way to get the heavy parachute into place on top.
Hopefully, next sunday will be the magic day of finality when we have a fully completed shade structure.

Tue, August 2, 2005 - 3:38 PMEvery camp we're placed near sounds really cool. I'm definatly going to be hanging out at the Lake Lahontan Yacht Club in a polo shirt, khaki shorts and a captains hat, maybe a cardigan over my shoulders and knotted around my neck. -

Thu, August 4, 2005 - 9:01 PMMore great news! We have fully erected the shade structure and it's AWESOME!! It's exactly as I pictured it... big and beautiful. I don't have the pictures, Josh's mom took many great ones though, he should be putting them up soon. We're all incredibly excited, what we've been working on for months has finally taken shape. -
