Hi, I’m looking for someone to carpool or convoy with to Burning Man. I’m thinking of leaving Tuesday and staying overnight in Reno. Then going from there to BRC early on Wednesday. That way I don’t arrive at night when it will be hard to find camp and park.
Anyone want to join in on my plan? I’d rather not go up by myself. It’s quite a long drive and it would be safer and more fun I think to have someone along for the trip up. BTW, I live in the mid-Peninsula but I can meet up with anyone anywhere on the way from the SF Bay Area.
I think on the way back on Monday, I can just leave with everyone else.
Thanks,
Jean

Wed, July 13, 2005 - 6:46 AMThe big RV is going up Tuesday after work (early as possible) so if you want to caravan along with us that might be fun. Only thing is, we are pressing forward to get there as soon as we can. -

Wed, July 13, 2005 - 4:01 PMThanks Jersey,
I think it would be a good idea that newbie's either car pool with someone who's been there before. -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 2:23 PMConvoying with you guys will for me. I don't have to work that Tuesday and so I'm available to leave at any time. If we all leave late in the day, though, won't we get there too late to be able to drive into our camp? -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 2:44 PMOops... pressed submit before I proofread my post. I meant convoying (as opposed to carpooling) with the Tuesday group will work for me. I don't think I'll have space for more than myself and my gear (plus camp stuff such carpet, extra water for coffee, etc.) in my small car so carpooling probably won't work. -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 2:47 PMOn the other hand, I have no clue how much stuff I'll be bringing; and having someone to keep me company in my car and share driving duties would be a blessing. Suggestions anyone? -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 7:16 PMIt really shouldn't be difficult to find the camp since we will know EXACTLY where we are placed beforehand. -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Sat, July 23, 2005 - 10:19 AMAgreed. The plan is to drive straight through, enter, and drive around the outer road until we cut into our camp location. We'll try and contact those there already via radio to let them know we've arrived since there may be some arranging to do in order to fit the RV / cars in. (in other words, so as not to run over / through some tents!) -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Sun, July 24, 2005 - 1:01 AMWe'll make sure to leave the radios on for ya too... unlike last year... -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 10:48 PMNah, the radios worked well for Jersey's arrival last year... I rememeber being over at 2 o'clock and got their call around midnight.
Fifteen minutes later and Jersey was Blotto drunk!! -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Tue, July 26, 2005 - 11:04 PMYeah, worked fine for Jeff, but for Josh, Dora and I were screwed and we really needed you guys. -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Wed, July 27, 2005 - 9:44 AMGet your radios folks! $12.99 for a pair at Fry's
We'll talk more later, but on the subject of our arrival Tuesday late, I wanted to repeat that we are going to have to be very careful about organizing the camp layout this year. We have one large RV, one camper trailer (Andy), four (count em' .... FOUR) Costco barns / shade, lots of tents, a huge-ass primary shade structure, two art cars, and all of the rest of the vehicles. The lot size will probably be odd shaped if we are on the plaza........... I guess what I'm saying is, those who arrive early need to come up with a very well thought-out and cool plan to make sure it all works. Dropping a tent in the most convenient place might not make sense when looking at the the larger picture. Extra cars may need to be located off site. You guys can come up with something good I'm sure when you first get there. I just don't want to be put in the spot of having to ask anyone to move their car, tent, or other crap around in the middle of the night when we arrive. Hopefully we will get exact dimensions when we are placed so we can draw up a plan before we go.

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Wed, July 27, 2005 - 10:09 AMi'll be driving solo and following the caravan late tuesday night. what do you guys think of this:
i'm thinking of bringing one tent for my goods, changing in, blah blah. then sleeping in the back of my mommy-mobile on a comfy floaty mattress with lots of blankies, pillows, and hopefully a guy with a hot ass & nice hands ;) today, i'm going to walgreens to pick up an eazy-up which i will place over my car to keep the sun off of it as much as possible.
think sleeping in my car will work? -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Wed, July 27, 2005 - 5:18 PMWhat kind of a vehicle are you driving again? Mommy mobile = Minivan? If so, you will probably be OK with your set up as long as you shade it and crack the windows. It will probably be a little hotter than a tent though so a suggestion might be to keep all your crap in the car and sleep in the tent.
If you have a smaller car, sleeping in it might not be that comfortable. Dano and Paul Moran tried that several years ago and they didn't like it. -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 12:08 AMI have to add that you'll roast in a car. Also, you'll find that if you can't disable the dome interior lighting (most decent SUVs have a dash mounted switch for this) then you'll have issues with doors open and battery draining. Even more also, you'll have a shit load of nasty alkali dust in the vehicle which will literally get everywhere.
I recommend against it. -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
Thu, July 28, 2005 - 12:09 AMSafety wise, if anything happens to you, we can't get at you to assist if the doors are locked. This is a no-go. -

Re: Looking for someone to carpool or convoy with...
